College Open Textbooks

Sorry for using the discussion forum for this email, but I keep triggering the spam alert on the normal "contact" channel.

Greetings,
I am a consultant working for Foothill college.  And I appreciate your work in promoting open textbooks.

We are working under a grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation to promote open textbooks for community colleges.  I handle peer reviews and copyright conversions.  Our website is collegeopentextbooks.org

First, we would like you to liberalize your copyright to CC-BY so that we could place it on Rice University's Connexions (www.cnx.org) repository.  All of the works there must have cc-by.  The reason is that with NC and ND many instructors are hesitant to use the work for fear of some type of copyright violation (e.g. selling copies of chapters at cost).  ND scares them off, too, because if the user cannot add just one essay to their course work, for example.  Therefore, Connexions has a policy of only allowing CC-BY works.  I hope you are willing to open up your textbook(s) a bit more.

Second, other than the PDF version, do you have it in xml or odt version?  Dynamic Books has agreed to list open textbooks on their website (a work in process) and asked us for recommendations.  If your text is available in xml or odt then they can incorporate it easily.

Third, we need peer reviewers - volunteers and we also offer a stipend of $250.  The qualification is a minimum of one year teaching the discipline in advanced high school or community college level or above.  See more details about our review process at:

Thank you and best regards,
