Composition as a Write of Passage

Nathalie Singh-Corcoran

Volume 2

Chapter Description

This chapter engages students in a dialogue about the overarching value of first year writing and its applicability to writing in the disciplines and in the world of work. Too often students say (and rejoice in the idea) that once they have completed their composition requirements, they never have to write again. As a writing instructor, you know that once your students have completed their composition requirement, they may never have to write another personal narrative or argumentative research paper. However, you also know that their writing lives are far from over. This chapter will help you articulate the importance of writing beyond the first year of college.
