Basic Approaches to Creating Accessible Documentation Projects: What Is Accessibility, and What Does It Have to do with Documentation Projects?

Cathryn Molloy

Volume 6

Chapter Description

In this chapter, you’ll learn basic considerations for accessible documentation projects. The chapter will allow you to begin to approach documentation
projects with fundamental accessibly in mind. In order to do so, we’ll cover topics such as: considering colorblindness, considering dyslexia, and other conditions that alter visual abilities, creating documents that are compatible with assistive devices, and using alternative text for images.
Predictably, programs and tools exist to help technical communicators to create accessible documentation projects. However, it is always best to have a baseline understanding of how and why to approach accessible design in technical communication before using tools and templates.
